In a June 25, 2014 Gallup Poll - we are seeing the signs - the poll released has marketers scrambling, saying "62% of Americans say social media has no influence on purchasing decisions. Just 5% of people polled said social media has a great deal of influence on their buying habits."
This should scream to brands that they are missing that emotional connection with users. That brands need to touch people and people are wanting brands that do something unique,something their user's care about, something their user's can relate to, and that their brand what is important to them.
